Getting Started With Emby

Download Emby Apps

You'll need to install the Emby app on any device you plan on using. Emby should be available in the app store of your device. If you can't find
it let me know and I'll double check if it's available for that device.

You can view a list of client devices that are currently supported at the bottom of this page.

Emby Client Settings

When you edit the settings on a client it changes those settings on that client only. You might notice more or less settings depending on the client you're using.

Display

These settings adjust how Emby looks on each client. Most of them are documented on screen and you can adjust any you see fit.

Home Screen

This allows you to adjust what sections appear on your Emby home screen as well as the order the librarys are displayed.

Playback

Audio

  • Preferred Audio Language Set this to English
  • Play default audio track regardless of language Unchecked
  • Remember audio track selections Checked
  • Internet quality Set to Auto

Video

Advanced

  • Enable cinema intros Checked (This is not currently enabled on the server)
  • Play next episode automatically Your Preference
  • Enable next video info during playback Your Preference
  • Video player back button behavior Stop or your preference
  • Skip forward length Default 10 seconds or your preference
  • Skip back length Default 10 seconds or your preference
  • When resuming, automatically rewind Default 0 seconds or your preference
  • Intro Skipping Show 'Skip Intro' button (This is currently in testing and hoping to deploy soon.)
  • Enable 'Are you still watching?' prompt Checked
  • Display rating information on video playback start Checked or your preference

Subtitles

  • Preferred subtitle language Set this to English
  • Subtitle mode Set this to Only forced subtitles
  • Remember subtitle track selections Checked

Subtitle Appearance

These settings are complete user preference. You can adjust them and see the example change as you make edits.

Stats for Nerds

Enabling this during playback will show you information about the file you're playing. It will also show you if the server is currently transcoding that file before streaming it.
